THIS WEEK!

This next Thursday we will "drop scripts" for both of Act 1 and Act 2. That means that the scripts will no longer be allowed on stage when ever we run Act 1 or Act 2. SO keep learning and practicing your lines!! Become very familiar with your cues--that means the lines that come just before your speaking part. (This includes Act 2 Scene 2 which we are blocking on Monday We will be letting you go through Act 1 and Act 2 with minimum interruptions so that we can get the flow moving nice and smooth. I know it can be a lot of lines for some of you, but I KNOW you can do it!! Everyone has been doing such a GREAT job! I hope everyone has been having as much fun as I have been having.

How are your costumes coming?

Girls: check your closets (and your sister's closets...with permission of course..lol..) or even ask your girl friends if they have a nice full swishy skirt and blouse. Do you need more pictures to help you with your costumes?

If you have a more specialty costume, we are more than happy to help you out. Let us know what you need help with. Or is there are certain pieces that you are having trouble finding, let us know so that we can ask around. Feel free to comment on the blog what you are having trouble with.

For shoes... if you are still looking for shoes I have a suggestion. At walmart they sell shoe liners in the nylon section. They slip on like a slipper and look like a shoe from a distance. They come in all colors and patterns, but if you were to get a black pair they would work for your costume. They are about $3 a pair. When selecting your shoes, remember no heels and you want shoes that you don't feel restriced in. You want to be able to walk freely without worrying about stumbling in your shoes. As soon as you have found your shoes for the play, start wearing them at practice. You will need to practice walking in them on the stage--we don't want to hear your footsteps on the stage..very distracting.

Guys: How is it coming?? Dromios and Antipholuses we are having your pants, vest and sash made so that we can have you look as exact as possible. You, however will need to get your shirt and shoes. Remember, all guys need black shoes AND socks. Only have a shirt with a pocket if you have a vest to cover up the pocket. If you want a scarf for your head, that is fine!--Much less hairspray involved that way..lol.. Think pirate!! AAArrhhh!!

We are looking for a few props to help with the play and costumes. Please ask your parents if you able to help us out with any of these things. We will be posting other items in the near future.
A steamer trunk--similar to a large treasure chest.
A petticoat--a poofy skirt liner ...REALLY poofy.
Black graduation gown

Also if you have extra costume pieces that you would be willing to share with the others, please let us know!!

And finally, here is a picture of me when I was 17(?) and in the play Hello Dolly. (sadly the only picture I have) I caused my director some extreme stress two weeks before opening night. On Thursday, remind me to tell you what happen.

A once in a semester deal....

We, your Shakespeare mentors, are offering a one-time, exclusive incentive for reading "The Comedy of Errors", Act 5 early. When you finish Act 5, post a comment and you will be privileged to receive a special surprise on Thursday. Or you may call or e-mail Bonita or Nikki and receive the same, spectacular surprise. Of course, you will need to do this before Thursday's class begins. Once class begins, this offer is no longer valid.

Class for Jan 28

A few reminders....

First: Read Act 3 of Comedy of Errors. If you like, bring something in your bag that we gave you, that reminds you of Act 3. For example, if it was sad you could bring a tissue to wipe your tears...if they were fishing you could bring a plastic fish. ANYTHING as long as it FITS IN THE BAG and you can tie it into the reading of Act 3.

Second: We will be playing a game called Masquerade. To play this game you need to bring a simple mask. No pull over masks. It needs to be simple enough to be able to hold it in your hand and have your other hand free. Make sure you can still see well through the eye holes.

For those who haven't turned in their permission slip for the tubing party. I MUST have it on Thursday. Please bring your $12 also. :-)

Tryouts are in a month!!! Do you know which part you want to try out for yet?

One more thing....I need treat ideas for Thursday for those who bring an item??? I'm open to suggestions! Post your ideas here. Anyone have a favorite treat???

Saturday is almost here!

What fun class was today!! I had a B-L-A-S-T!!

Saturday: If you need to set up early, we will be at the Washington City Library at 5pm and you may drop it off then. EVERYONE MUST HAVE A DISPLAY, CHARACTER FOR THE EVENING, OR AN ACTIVITY TO SHARE THAT EVENING. Make sense?? Plus don't forget to bring a ROYAL DESSERT to share with everyone there.


Next week...read ACT 2 of Comedy of Errors PLUS bring a hand mirror. The mirror must be large enough to see your entire face in it at one time. ALSO, we will be lying on the ground briefly at class, so if you want to bring a small blanket to lay on the floor than that is fine also.


I need everyone's permission slip for Brian Head by next week. Either bring it on Saturday or on Thursday. The $12 is due anytime. We need it turned in the next week or two.
Please write the check out to Bonita Sutton but turn it into Nikki. This way we can keep an accurate record.

Till we have class again! Woo hoo!!

I know this is late notice, but I wanted to put out there that this semester it is very important that you dress in comfortable clothing. We are going to be doing lots and lots of crazy stuff and you want to be able to move freely. Of course, you must dress modestly. Levis, pants, tee-shirts, etc. are all ok. Wear shoes that you can move easily and quickly in. Don't wear a skirt if you can avoid it. (guys that applies to you too! :--p )

Here are the directions to Nikki's place:
Take a right at SR9, exit 16 to Hurricane
This will turn into State Street in Hurricane
Turn right at S.Main Street/SR59
Turn left at 100 South/SR59
Follow SR-50 until Apple Vallen-turn left at Apple Valley Dr. (at the Cheveron)
Turn left at Rome WAy (there will be a stop sign)
Turn left at Cartland. --You will meander through town and fields and eventually turn a hard right. You will be on Smithsonian Way-we are the grey tri-level on the left with the address 1052.
